SALT LAKE CITY, UT (September 9th, 2026) – The Utah Geological Survey (UGS) has published Circular 140: Utah Mining 2025, showcasing a robust mineral sector that produced an estimated $5.0 billion in mineral commodity value in 2025. The report highlights Utah’s diverse mining and exploration activity during 2025.

2025 Industry Highlights & Economic Impact

  • $5.0 Billion Total Production Value: Mining accounted for 51% of Utah’s total $9.7 billion extractive resource industry.
  • Top-10 National Ranking: The U.S. Geological Survey ranked Utah 7th nationally for nonfuel mineral production value.
  • 10 Critical Minerals Produced in 2025: Active operations extracted beryllium, copper, lead, palladium, phosphate, potash, platinum, silver, tellurium, and uranium.
  • Sole Domestic Supplier: Utah remains the nation’s only producer of beryllium concentrate (~55% of global supply), potassium sulfate (SOP), and uintaite (Gilsonite®). Fluorspar mining also restarted in early 2026, making Utah the sole significant U.S. producer.
  • Strategic Infrastructure: Utah hosts key processing hubs, including one of only two U.S. copper smelters and the nation’s sole operating conventional uranium mill capable of processing rare earth elements.
